As brides become more and more imaginative in planning their weddings, weddings in far off destinations are becoming more popular. Although the outcome is normally a reduced wedding guest list, it can also result in several fun opportunities for activities.
Many brides like to have a wedding seaside, so they locate the celebrations to a beach location, perhaps on their local coast or somewhere more exotic like Barbados or St Lucia. Wherever you go, there are lots of activities that can be arranged around this theme. If the wedding ceremony is also a weekend occasion where guests will be around for longerthan just the wedding, the bride can organize a sailing excursion. Charter a boat for a day and invite your guests out on the water to swim or relax, and perhaps enjoy a picnic meal on a beach.
If the ceremony is in the Caribbean, how about a cooking demonstration? The wedding planner can organize for theguests to see a cooking demonstration put on by the hotel or a local cook. Since much of the food the guests will be eating while visiting the wedding location will be very different from what they eat at home, they might like finding out how to prepare it back home.
Let’s say the ceremony is on one of the Hawaiian island, another popular wedding spot. Here, you can plan several activities around the location. For example, what about a luau? Maybe this could even replace a more conventional or formal rehearsal dinner.
Also in Hawaii, guests may like a hula lesson.
Other pre-wedding activities can include shopping excursions and guided tours and wine tasting activities, if applicable. If you choose to include any of these activities keep in mind that the bride and groom, or their families, are expected to pay for the majority of them. If you organize a sailing excursion, for example, you are expected to pick up the cost for the trip. Do not tell the wedding guests ahead of time that the outing will be x dollars. That will not go down well.
Since one of the great benefits of the far off wedding ceremony is that only your closest friends and family will be with you, you can set up some meaningful activities that you wouldn’t set up if the wedding were a larger occasion. For example, you might plan a slumber party night with close friends that includes a movie, popcorn and drinks in your hotel room, villa or cottage, depending on where the wedding is taking place.
Naturally, if you pick a destination wedding, for many wedding guests this might also double as their main vacation. In those circumstances you might not want to schedule too many activities but instead let your guests to discover their own entertainment and activities before and after the ceremony.
